running here & there

‘twas a tiring day. I was out of my crib almost the whole day because we started our Singolympics today and I & Alvin are the committee for the bowling game so we need to be in the venue a bit earlier before the participants came. Since two of us are the only person who’s handling the game we are running here in there to talk to all the coordinators, call the players, go to the reception area, check the player, etc. wheew! Kakapagod but it’s fun though... The game went well even if we exceeded an hour in our allotted time. In the end, it’s all worth the tension & exhaustion because everyone enjoy the game, adding up Sharjah, our team won for the bowling competition, champion actually. We’ll continue the other game next weekend and for sure it will be a lot of fun and a lot of exhaustion too so I’d rather prepare myself for another rumble :)

and the winner is...finky S-H-A-R-J-A-H!
those who are wearing fink shirts are the winners

After the game, I have to meet my “kababayan” in Citicenter to give my mom’s request…her magic green tea. :D She’ll be going home to Philippines and I have to meet her before they watch the movie or else I need to bring it to her place tomorrow. So I just dropped my stuff in my bed and run to the nearest supermarket in our place to buy but unfortunately they don’t have it in stock, so I checked in the other store and they don’t have also. Gawd. Need to hurry to catch the bus and decided to buy it instead in the supermarket inside citicenter. Cue in the cashier is a bit crowded since its weekend, just glad that there is one guy who let me in first…so there I go! I run to meet her and gave the precious green tea of my mom! It’s a bit odd coz we have that stuff in Philippines too but since it’s expensive, my mom won’t surely buy it. :D

Anyway, it’s Dubai Shopping Festival already and I’ve got black skinny jeans from TopShop because most of the shops are on sale. Unfortunately, Dubai is still in crisis and most people are not willing to spend their earnings for unnecessary stuff that’s why you’ll notice that malls here are not crowded even if they are on sale.

have you seen the iPad???

Steve Jobs unveils the jaw-dropping Apple's iPad, the most anticipated touch-screen tablet computer yesterday.

The iPad has a 9.7 inch display, weighs 1.5 pounds (0.7kg) and boasts 10 hours of battery life. Too light for the computer tablet huh.?

If you want to see the exact tech specification, please check on this link

But despite of those specifications mentioned in their site, many tech savvy are saying that they are a bit disappointed on what this tablet computer is missing unlike like their previous creation. Such as No built-in camera, No jaw-droppingly new user interface, No user-replaceable battery, No iPhone software 4.0 announcement, No TV subscriptions and if you’re in the US it doesn’t have 3G support for Verizon yet.

think Apple needs a lot of things to add in their new creation but having this gadget is oh so cool! Can’t imagine myself having this…i’m gonna make a really BIG SMIRK while using this stuff

Call on Jesus

this is one of those songs that gives me strength when i am feeling down...and i want to share this to all of you. it's all about having faith with our Creator despite of anything that's happening in our life. Have hope and keep on believing coz with HIM nothing is impossible.

Call on Jesus
by Nicole C. Mullen

Verse 1:
I'm so very ordinary, nothing special on my own.
Oh, I have never walked on water,
And I have never calmed a storm.
Sometimes I'm hiding away from the madness around me
Like a child who's afraid of the dark

Chorus:
But when I call on Jesus,
All things are possible
I can mount on wings like eagles' and soar
When I call on Jesus,
Mountains are gonna fall
'Cause He'll move heaven and earth to come rescue me when I call

La la la la la, la la la la la

Verse 2:
Weary brother, broken daughter,
Widowed, Widowed lover you're not alone
If you're tired and scared of the madness around you
If you can't find the strength to carry on

Chorus:
When you call on Jesus,
All things are possible
You can mount on wings like eagles' and soar
When you call on Jesus,
Mountains are gonna fall
'Cause He'll move heaven and earth to come rescue you when you--

Bridge:
Call Him in the morning', in the afternoon time
Late in the evening' He'll be there
When your heart is broken,
And you feel discouraged,
You can just remember that He said
He'll be there

Chorus (2x):
When I call on Jesus,
All things are possible
I can mount on wings like eagles' and soar
When I call on Jesus,
Mountains are gonna fall
'Cause He'll move heaven and earth to come rescue me (back to top first time, 2nd time finish with "when I call")

La la la la la, la la la la la, la la la la la-a-

bewildered...

Many are the plans in a man's heart, but it is the LORD's purpose that prevails.
Proverbs 19:21

Been thinking a lot of things lately and mostly it’s about worrying my future…musing about my future really demoralize my being though I know that I shouldn’t be coz God will not forsake me for whatever bewilderment I am going through right now. I know I’m not losing my faith maybe it’s a human nature that we sometimes feel confusion in our life but I hope it will end soon.

I pray that may God send me the Holy Spirit to empower me once again and may He open my heart and mind to see all HIS possibilities. I’m so aware that in Your perfect time everything will be fine…You maybe let things to happen in my life or taken things away from me but I know You have a better plan for me. I may not know your reasons and don’t understand your ways Lord God but still Your will in me will always be done.

God's miraculous work in Haiti

Just thought of sharing these miraculous stories during the rescue operation from the aftermath of the massive earthquake that happened in Haiti almost 2 weeks ago.

Wismond Exantus – trapped for 11 days in the rubble of the hotel where he worked. He said "I was hungry. But every night I thought about the revelation that I would survive." "It was God who was tucking me away in his arms. It gave me strength," he added.

Ena Zizi, was singing as she was pulled free by Mexican firefighters from the wreckage of the main Roman Catholic Cathedral. She’s having church meeting when the tremor hit and leaving her trapped. She said "I talked only to my boss – God And I didn't need any more humans.” She also says that her Roman Catholic beliefs helped her through the ordeal.

Emmannuel Buso, rescued after 11 days, revealed that he survived by drinking his own urine. He appeared dead when he was dug from his home by a search team. As he recovered in a field hospital, he said: "I felt the house dance around me. I'm here today because God wants it."

Paul Derlice, a 4-year-old pulled to safety after almost three days buried in the rubble of his two-story family home. Paul was thought to be dead. Someone heard his voice crying out from the rubble. Although exhausted and extremely dehydrated, Paul was unharmed. Jean Mercilien, one of the rescuers, told the New York Daily News: "God let this boy live." When Paul's amazed mother, Kelty Charleston, saw her child — who only suffered a few scratches — she looked at the boy as if he was a mirage. "It's a miracle," Charleston said. "I thought it was impossible that he was alive."

Elisabeth Joassaint, a baby who was just 11 days old when the Haiti earthquake struck has become one of its most amazing survival stories.

Her family couldn’t believe that she was still alive without any injury after 7 days under the rubble of their house.

Elisabeth was alive in a tiny hollow beneath the devastation, still lying on the bed where her mother Michelene had placed her moments before the quake hit. Her mother gave thanks for what she called 'a miracle and the mercy of God.' And her father said : 'Everybody knew the baby was dead, except the Lord. This wasn't the way Jesus wanted the baby to die.'

Isn’t it amazing to see God's miraculous work in the midst of this catastropic event? Seeing Haitian's faith & how they acknowledge God for another life that He has given to them will only prove that God will not abandon them in their ordeals.

Let's all pray that they may still continue to do the rescue operation to save more lives coz for sure there are still a lot of survivors beneath those ruins in Haiti. And for those Haitian who are still under the rubble of the buildings may they continue to hold on to God coz nothing is impossible with HIM.

proud to be pinoy...

moi, proud to be pinoy

Just got home from watching “Dubai International Basketball Championship” where Philippine National Team "Smart Gilas" is the representative of our country for this competition. Always wanted to watch their game even before but just got the chance to watch it this year.

Knowing how basketball aficionados Filipinos are, the stadium is always full of our kababayan every time that RP team will have the game. I was just able to watch their game twice and I really have fun coz I missed cheering and booing during the game.

Last Wednesday, Philippine national team “Smart Gilas” won over Egypt that brought them to play in the semi-finals today. But unfortunately they didn’t make it to the championship because Lebanon won over them in a very close fight. The opponents just won 3 points ahead of them, which leaves Filipino audience a bit disappointed for losing the game. Players gave their best and we know that but disappointment is always part of losing.

Something the Filipino should be proud of…

Compare to the other team that are almost measures from 6 feet & up, Smart Gilas player are smaller than those Arab teams but despite of the height differences RP team didn't give a damn, instead they give each of their opponent a hard time in winning over them. As per their name “Gilas”, they all play with gallant knowing that height doesn’t matter in this game. It’s all about the special skills that each of the players is contributing in playing the game. And that make us proud. They might not be able to win the game and not able to make in the championship but what they prove here in Dubai is something that Filipinos should be proud of already.

More power to "Smart Gilas", as the banner of one of our kababayan says "WE BELIEVE". We believe that you guys can make it in what your team is aiming for. And we believe that every Filipino are the best in any field in this world. So let us not give any disgrace to Philippines while others are exerting their effort to give honor for our country. Mabuhay ang mga Pilipino! :)

One more thing, glad to hear and sing our national anthem once again :)

falling star + wishes

Saw a falling star this evening while i was on my way to church. I was a bit hesitant if it's real or not but it is. I’ve seen falling star before but tonight is different because it falls almost near in my location. It’s like a big, long tadpole with vibrant colors and because of my amazement i wasn’t able to utter my wishes! It's too fast! Yun un e! They say, you should utter your wishes before it falls on the ground but what happened to me was I just utter my wishes when it’s almost vanishing coz I’d just stare and says…wow falling star! :D

Hmmm…wait…now i'm wonderin' if where did this belief comes from anyway??? Is it real? Anyway, here’s the answer in my oddity. It says here ”Most children are familiar with the superstition that a wish made on a shooting star will come true. While no one knows exactly where or when the tradition of wishing on a shooting star arose, it is undoubtedly linked to the beauty and relative rarity of shooting stars and humanity's eternal fascination with the heavens. Stars have been associated since ancient times with divine powers, and even today, some people associate shooting stars with angels, so wishing on a star may be akin to offering a prayer.” So there you go! We all thought that it comes directly from heaven when the truth is it comes from the outer space. It’s a meteoroid’s debris from space that enters our atmosphere and burns up even before they reach the planet surface. Owkay fine, so it's not really a star huh...but hey can you imagine a star falling in our planet? isn't too big to fall? gawd.

Well, whether it’s real or just a superstition isn’t it exciting to experience seeing a "falling star" every once in a while and it's even more exciting to make your wishes before it falls on the ground.

Save for a Cause

Either you’re working abroad or locally, every one of us is being threatened by the global crisis phenomenon that until now is still startling the business world. So I think it’s a great idea to save something for our future.

Here are my simple tip to save, these are a bit basic tips but saving a little is better than nothing to spend during our hefty time.

1. Walk or bike to your work. Instead of paying for bus or taxi take a walk. Aside from saving, you have an instant exercise at the same time. No need to pay for the gym either.

2. Don't buy lunch every day. Make and take your lunch to work. You can also ask your friends to bringing their own food and let you guys share to each other. Anyway, ordering and eating at food court are a bit annoying since they serve the same menu almost everyday.

3. Cut back on dining out. Cook in your house or if you don’t know how to cook, you can always look in the net for the recipes.

4. Quit smoking! Aside from spending a lot in this habit, you’ll get nothing in return but a disease! So why wasting?!

5. Watch online or borrow DVD. Buying and renting DVD would also cost you a lot especially when you will buy the latest release so why not waiting for quite some time and watch it thru online. You can also find some High Definition movie or either way you can ask your friends to lend you their DVD if they do have.

6. Read online. Find sites that you can read books online instead of buying or you can borrow books from your friends too, just don’t ruin it so you can borrow again. 

7. Don’t buy unnecessary things. Buy stuff only when you need it. Don’t buy clothes when you still have clothes that you haven’t wear or bags when you still have plenty in your cabinet.

8. Don’t shop with an empty stomach. Eat before leaving your place to avoid additional spending aside from shopping.

9. Keep your left over food on the fridge. Don’t throw your left over food when it’s still clean. You can keep it and warm it up in your microwave.

10. Lessen bar hopping. Instead of going there every weekend, try to reduce it to once a month. You won’t die when you skip the dance floor, right?

life's storms

“Storms make trees take deeper roots”
~ Dolly Parton

They say that life isn’t complete when you will not encounter any storms in your life. But in this world that we are dealing with, we often face storm that devastates our being and leave something in us either scars or lessons that we can use for another stormy day.

The storm blew in and removed what didn't belong there. God has sent or allowed storms to come roaring into our life and most often with that same effect. It's true in nature, it's true in our lives - what devastates can also be God's tool to cleanse, improve and beautify! Storms clarify the things that really matter and the things that really don't. Maybe that's what God is trying to get to do as the storm's battering us; set some new priorities, get rid of some cargo we've accumulated - even some sin we've taken on - our stuff that just needs to go. It could be that God wants to use our personal hurricane to get us to focus on the things that really matter.

The hurricanes of God seem devastating sometimes and they can hurt. But He also sends them to accomplish things that might not happen any other way...the cleansing that our life needs. The new priorities our life needs. He's removing what's been blocked the sun so something beautiful can grow there.

So, how many storms have you already encountered in your entire life? Can you still count it? Isn’t it amazing that despite of the trials that we had we’re still here and continue to witness the rising sun once again. Be thankful to GOD for all the storms, courage, strength and wisdom that He always bestowed upon us. Remember, storm used only to pass by, it is with us if we will let that stay in our life.

Want to give up? Think of Perseverance!

Perseverance: You are never a loser until you quit trying. Your biggest break can come from never quitting. Being at the right place at the right time can only happen when you keep moving toward the next opportunity. Remember that people don’t succeed because they are destined to; they succeed because they are determined to. When you come to bumps in the road and feel doubtful, say to yourself, Cowards despair, but I persevere! So never give up! ;)

Its perseverance, also known as persistence, steadfastness, patience, or tenacity. Its the ability to hold on to your dream like a pit bull, refusing to let go, regardless of the obstacles. Perseverance is one of the secrets of success. After all, if you keep moving toward your goal, never quitting, you will eventually reach it. Its a simple, but crucial, idea.

Perseverance is necessary because anything worthwhile is difficult to do. So, we have to expect roadblocks. When you come to one, smash through it; go around it; burrow under it; jump over it; take a detour; do anything as long as you continue toward your goal. Pretend youre the Energizer Bunny and just keep going.

However, dont confuse perseverance with obstinacy. That is, dont keep banging your head against a brick wall until you smash your skull. You have to temper persistence with common sense. If you cant pass a roadblock after a reasonable number of tries, its time to find another route. Theres more than one way to reach your goal. The trouble with some people is that during trying times, they stop trying. But why should we ever stop? Isnt it true that stopping at third base adds no more to the score than striking out? We have the power to persevere. Its just a matter of making up our minds to do so.

Never give up! Never give up! Never give up! Strive to Persevere!

the "haitian" i knew...

In real life, I’m really not aware that Haiti does exist. It’s such a shame for me that I didn’t know the existence of this country! So for my own info’s sake, I’ve posted some facts about Haiti. ;)

Haiti is a country in the West Indies, about 600 miles southeast of Florida. It shares the islands of Hispaniola with it's neighbor, the Dominican Republic.

Area-almost 11,000 square miles. About the same size as Maryland.

Population-almost 7millon people. - I think their population now is almost 9M

Capital City-PORT-AU-PRINCE

National Flag-the flag has two sideways strips blue and red.In the center of the flag is the nation coat of arms, which has palms on it. National Dance- wooden leg dance

History of Haiti

Haiti has along history of problems with its government. But did you know that it was the first country where African slaves fought for their freedom? It was, and it has been a free country ever since. In the past there have been many problems with different groups trying to control Haiti. One family ruled Haiti for a long time and they were very cruel to the people.

The first known residents of Haiti were the ciboney Indian people who originated in central or south America and migrated to the Caribbean region about 2000 B.C.

The island of Hispaniola where Haiti is located was discovered by Christopher Columbus. Much later the French would colonize Haiti and turn it in to one vary large sugar plantation. Many slaves were brought to Haiti to work in the plantations. That is why some Haitian people have light skin (they are descendents of the French colonists) and why others have dark skin (they are descendents of the African slaves).

See, somehow fate of Haiti citizens and our country are the same because they both governed by a dictator but eventually people got the nerve and woke to their senses to have courage & fight for their rights as a citizen of that country. Wow ang galing! Long lives Haitians & Filipinos! ;)

Highlights of this entry…that I’m aware that there is Haitian!!! that I didn’t know that Haitian is a citizen of a certain country coz I as I’ve said I didn’t know that there is Haiti!!! Ahahaha… All I thought is, Haitian is someone who removes certain part of your memories because this is what I’ve used to watch in “Heroes”. Stupid me, right??? So during my awful moments about my ex-bf, I used to say this line “I really hope that Haitian is real, so he can remove the memories of my past especially the time when we’re together”. Ahahahaha! Toinks!

Anyway, my sympathy to all Haitians who lost their families and are affected by the horrific earthquake that occurred in Haiti yesterday. For those who will read this entry, please do pray for them too. They need our prayers.

randomness @ early 2010

January 1 – celebrate new year @ my bro’s place in sharjah; soaked & run under the rain while going to St. Michael church; dinner @ anton’s place…

January 2 – transfer in our new “bigger” room and fix our things the whole afternoon. Can’t believe that I wasn’t able to lay down in my bed the whole day til midnight! Kapagod maglipat kahit same haus lang!

January 3 – first day of work and I was totally late!!! Can’t find my office key; left by my service; took to bur dubai station; insufficient fund in my bus card, AED 3.90 and the fair to KV is AED 4; no small bill for reloading my card; look around to change my bill; just 1 reloading station is working from all the machine in Ghubaiba!; and lastly, bus aircon is not working :D Huwat a start of my 2010 @ work!

But despite of being wet, tired and unlucky in my early 2010 those are still pieces of good fortune anyway! :)
